"Wear and Tear" on a LCD?

I went to the 5th Avenue Apple store to have a "white splotch" problem fixed on my 15" (1.5GHz) powerbook under Applecare until 6/08. Essentially, there are two fairly large white spots on the LCD near the center which are whiter than the surrounding area. Really shows up on grey and white webpages, etc. Not annoying generally unless you look directly at it. It's almost as if they are paint splotches, only translucent.

The tech identified it as pixel damage but claimed Apple wouldn't service it because it is considered "wear and tear" and that it had probably occurred when I applied pressure to the external casing behind the LCD. Occurs to me as odd, since I've used it as a desktop replacement for over two years, carried it around in a sleeve or a Matias Laptop Armor. This same tech also replaced the shift key on my keyboard, which proceeded to pop off less than 24 hours later.

So do I drag it down to 23rd Street and have Tekserve do it, go to a different Apple Store for a different opinion, or am I up the proverbial creek without a paddle? Opinions appreciated.

The tech is full of it - there's no way pressure applied from the *back* could do that.

He said it was "chronic pressure." I doubt that would make a difference. Looks like Tekserve is getting another customer.

I probably got the runaround since the computer is almost out of warranty...

Anything like this:

Apple - Support - 15-inch PowerBook G4 Display Repair Extension Program

If so, you should get/demand a replacement for free. Note, if outside the model numbers listed, it does not necessarily mean that your Powerbook is not going to develop this problem. If the spotting is (near) identical to the pattern in the image on that page, then your computer was fitted with a duff panel.

Nope, nothing like that at all. More faint, less pronounced. I had a friend with a 1Ghz G4 problem and it was nothing like that.
