My mother in law has a MBP 2.16 running 10.5.1, and recently we have noticed that after closing the lid to put the computer to sleep that when the computer is opened again the screen doesn't light. By this I mean that it appears that the computer is not waking up, but I find that if I push F2 to raise the screen brightness that the computer has been awake but the screen has been fully dimmed. I don't understand what is causing the screen to fully dim itself when it is put to sleep. Any thoughts?

Check the system.log file. Does it say something like
Dec 10 03:33:04 ******** kernel[0]: NVDA::setPowerState(0x4737400, 0 -> 2) timed out after 45147 ms

If so, check http://forums.macnn.com/69/mac-noteb...rivers-broken/
