as the title says.

is this perhaps a pram battery issue? and is that user-replaceable?
my friend's titanium powerbook is at 1969, every time he powers up, or wakes up.

ideas? thanks!

Your battery is fried. A replacement should help.

The PRAM battery is not user-replaceable.

I'm not sure it is the PRAM, are you?

The tiBook has a buffer battery that keeps PRAM settings and clock powered. (This is also the battery that makes it possible to swap batteries while the book is running!)

If the regular battery is dead, the buffer battery will still maintain PRAM settings and the time.

If that's not happening, then either the internal buffer battery is dead, as well, or the book has a logic board problem (which is not unlikely, either).

Same thing happens to my parent's TiBook. Its the internal clock battery. The clock will reset any time the main battery goes completely dead. As far as i know, you'll have to have a service center replace the motherboard battery, though if you (or your friend) is tech savvy enough you could do it yourself - but be prepared for some laptop surgery.

The PRAM battery is not too complicated to install, provided you've got a replacement. Go to ifixit.com and click on "Guides" and choose your model. I imagine they'll sell you a PRAM battery as well.

Having opened a Ti many times, it doesn't look too bad, provided you're OK with small screws and delicate parts.

The PRAM battery IS indeed user replaceable. Just replaced mine on an old Ti 500 that was sitting in a drawer for 2 years and refused to power up.

Bought it here. Download the guide...really pretty simple.
