I dropped my old Powerbook a couple of weeks ago so I had to buy a new computer. I had read in the past that people who bought the refurbs from the Apple store got perfect notebooks and sometimes got a bonus (better specs than listed and ordered)

Seeing as this was kind of an unexpected expense, I figured I would give the refurbs a look just to try and save a few bucks. I ordered a stock 2.4GHz, 15in. Glossy, 160GB and 2GB ram Macbook Pro. The price was $2099.00. (retail $2499.00)

I was expecting some sort of flaw as a trade off for the discount (I'm not a lucky person, if it will happen, it will happen to me lol) but to my surprise, I received a flawless Macbook Pro, no dead pixels, no scratches or case warpage and 4GB's OF RAM AND A 200GB HARD DRIVE.

I will purchase refurbs from now on a recommend them to anyone else. They are absolutely no different than a brand new computer. I went to the Apple store and customized a MBP to the specs that I received and the price was $3399.00

Just felt like sharing that lol

Congratulations on your new device!

I bought a white refurbished MacBook a year back. It works excellent. I'll see if I can get a refurbished MacBook Pro sometime soon.

Particularly weird since Apple doesn't offer a 200GB drive, even for their CTO models. Seems like this Mac had been 'customized' by its previous owner prior to being returned...

The 200GB drive is 7200RPM.

Apple just lists the base models and ships whatever they have in inventory. Upgrades aren't common, but they're not infrequent.

Err... yes, sorry. I can't read today. I blame whoever made the 250GB option appear above the 200GB option on the CTO page.

I didn't realize, however, that one could get lucky and receive a refurbished CTO machine. Double congrats. to the OP. No need upgrade that MBP for a while, I'll wager.
