So this is kind of embarrassing, but I accidentally spilled some, uh, lubricant on my 12" PB G4 1.5ghz while it was closed, thank God, on my floor next to my bed. Once I noticed what had happened I quickly mopped it up, thinking it was only on the top and that it was fine. And it did work, until it froze. And then it just stopped turning on. The fan turns on, but nothing else. No screen or anything. I took it to the Mac Genius Bar and they told me that it needs a new mobo and that it would cost over $1000. I think that the lube seeped in through the fan.

It was funny at the Mac store too, the guy asked what I spilled on it and there are all these people around and I'm like "um, oil", and he's like what kind of oil? Motor oil, what is cooking oil? "Uhh..yeah cooking oil"

When you got the genius bar and allowed the techie to examine it first -- you then should have told the truth about what happened. The techie would likely have jerked the machine off the counter in reaction--and Apple would have been liable for a replacement. lol

For $1000 I would replace it. If I was willing to scrap it would be willing to open it up and try to clean it up. Get some rags and try wiping it all off and reconnecting all the cables.

Looks like Powerbook Guy has logic boards for $500 plus whatever for installation. Might be worthwhile for you, might not.
