It's only a "tease" if someone actually seriously suggested that Apple would upgrade the MBP and announce it soon. Someone who actually KNOWS something about what goes on inside Apple. Since that NEVER happens...

Our own hopes and desires about what Apple might release and when should NOT be used to imply Apple motives.

I am starting to think we won't see any MacBook Pro's before the beginning of the next quarter.

So probably announced near the end of March, and shipping in April. Reason being? Profits for shareholders.

Apple release profits per quarter, and to ensure revenue growth for each quarter, staggers products out to market. This quarter sales will come from the MBA and iPhone / iTouch and the new Mac Pro's.

There will be enough pent up demand for new MBP's to ensure healthy sales of the machine then.

Thoughts?

So it's up now.
Has anything improved?
These MBP specs haven't changed, have they?

Apple's stock has tanked since they didn't introduce anything at MacWorld other than a
shiny new toy Macbook Air!

The downtime was for the iPhone and iPod Touch updates.

I think it'll be after the PC makers bring out Penryn-based laptops that Apple brings out a Penryn-based MBP. So far their track record on introducing computers based on newer Intel chips has been one of "careful development" rather than "first to market no matter what." I don't know they do this, but it looks like they wait for some PC maker to find the traps and pitfalls for them. Maybe it won't be much after another manufacturer's Penryn laptop, but I think it'll be after someone.

HP has them, Acer has them, Toshiba has them, and Dell finally has them, so Apple is right on schedule to have them in about a month.

Seriously; look at the last two MBP CPU upgrade timelines.

it would also be lovely to get a 320Gb HD option as well as the processor upgrade.

250Gb is nice for a single OS but Bootcamp makes it look rather humble. Dell has a 320Gb 2.5" option so heres hoping apple will do it too.

FWIW, apple seems to be on its own timeline. Just look at how long it took for them to release an update to the MacPro line. While I'm not suggesting that it will be 19 months before we see an update, its not unreasonable to expect that apple will release it when they feel like regardless of when others release the penryn laptops

I think you're right, but there is also eventually a price for allowing your competition to release superior hardware without updating your own--for too long anyway. If Apple waited 19 months before updating the macbook pro(which I know you aren't suggesting), they would most definitely lose customers to that competition. Maybe one of the reasons they are waiting is because they don't want to steal macbook air's thunder just yet. Once there is an update to the mbp and mb line, I don't think most people are going to pay the macbook air much attention since its directed at a niche market anyway.
