I bought a 1.33GHz 17" PowerBook for my wife and have a few questions (I'm used to the next-generation 1.5GHz 15"):

• Apparently this is of the generation before trackpad scrolling was enabled. Is there a hack for this?

• The hinge 'clutches' need tightening. Is there online info on how to do this?

• Almost no keyboard backlighting, although the screen backlight is fine. Is this normal?

Mac OS X and iPod Troubleshooting, Support, and Help - MacFixIt has a lot of helpful **** for hinge issues and the like.

Re the backlighting, it's a stupid question, but have you tried the manual +/- controls on the f keys?
