Yo,

My powerbook will not go past the apple grey screen.. i have a lot of important files on my laptops hard drive and would like to avoid reformatting if possible.. if anyone has any suggestions, post up.

put in your install dvd, boot up holding the C key.
do an ARCHIVE & INSTALL; follow the prompts, be SURE this is what you're doing.

you'll get a clean system installed (with the current system moved to a "previous system folder".

your home folder, apps, etc should remain untouched...
