Hey guys,
Ive been with Windows forever and i feel i want a change. I am looking to buy a MacBook for college that will start in Sept. A friend of mine has one for sale that im thinking of buying. I dont need it right away so I was wondering if there are any big changes that will occur to new MacBooks between now and then.
This is what his is:
Apple MacBook (Black) Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz
This is a Mid-2007 revision of the Black MacBook, in excellent condition spending most of its time on a desk at home, with the following specifications:
* Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz
* 120 GB SATA 5400 RPM Hard Drive
* 8x Slot-loading SuperDrive
* 1.5 GB of RAM
* 13.3" Glossy Widescreen Display
* Built-In iSight
* All Original Packaging with Restore DVDs
* Balance of Apple Factory Warranty
A carrying case is INCLUDED!
Certain additional software may be negotiable over and above the standard MacBook bundled software.
$1300 CDN is what this is for sale for and is about what my price point is. This book seems better than the current cheapest MacBook out right now. So should i get this now instead of the current new one? Or is there gunna be a new, better MacBook comin out around June and will the cheapest one beat this one?

Check out the Apple Store refurbished models for price comparisons. I do not know CDN$. Refurbs are excellent purchase choices if what you want is available.
The odds are high that "...gunna be a new, better MacBook comin out around June" and yes, the cheapest one will beat this one. However June is 4 months off and life is short so you may want to buy an Apple refurb or your friend's MB now, whichever is cheaper.
Max out RAM on whatever you buy. That is 2x2GB RAM into 2 slots, so the existing MB RAM is essentially useless; maybe you can trade it to the seller for a discount.

There should be new models introduced soon, usually in time for the back-to-school buying period.
Also, a refurb would come with the 1-year applecare warranty, whereas the mid-2007 model's applecare will be expiring soon, unless your friend has bought the 2-year extension. Refurb will also have a new battery--whereas your friend's battery may be quite depleted if he's been heavily using it on battery.
Just some things to think about.

I'm a windows/mac developer and used Windows all the way through college(2004-2007) and I wish I would have used Mac all those years. Get a mac and you won't be disappointed even if an upgrade comes out.

No big changes unless Apple jumps on GMA X4500 as soon as its released... which is unlikely to happen given their past history.

Just a tip...
Usually, in August/September they have "back to school" promotions where you can buy a macbook (or any mac) and get a free ipod nano and a free printer. Even if you don't need those things, you can turn around and sell them on eBay and consider it a couple hundred bucks off the price of your mac.

I bought a Macbook Air for college. Best thing I ever did. My Dell Inspiron seems to be about twice the weight. And using a cane to walk, that's a no go. I'm on my 5th Apple over the last 25 years or so. Sweet machines. And don't worry about getting Office. Just get iWork, or NeoOffice. Just as good, and cheaper.
