I just put this hard drive into my 12" Powerbook. (I think it's a 1.33GHz). It was out of an HP zv5000. When I went to install OSX (iBook G4 install 10.3) it would not let me see it. I went to Disk Utility and Partitioned and Erased it. Now it shows in the OSX install but has a red stop sign and ! mark. It says I cannot install to it. Any advice? Replacing the HDD was a pita for me as I do not really do this often at all.

Did you do a full zero out and format it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)?

I don't know how to do a full zero out and format. Can it be done in Disk Utility?

Okay, I selected the option to zero all data and am currently "erasing" to Extended Journaled. I don't know if that is what it calls formatting or not.

Yup, that's what you should be doing.

Did the zero format. Restarted to the OS X disc. It is allowing me to install. Thanks for the heads up bballe336!
