Ok .. my MBP was working fine in closed-lid mode for the first few weeks that I had it.

All of a sudden now if I try to go into closed lid mode the computer won't wake up. Sometimes I can get it to wake up for about 10 seconds, then it goes to sleep ... never to wake again. Other times it simply never wakes up. The only recovery is to open the lid and hold the power button until it shuts off and then reboot it.

I inquired with the "genius" at the Apple store. I didn't get much beyond when he asked me "Are you using closed lid with or without an external monitor?" WTF????? <-- Dumbest question EVER.

Any ideas? Anyone else ever have this problem and resolve it?

BTW: I did read the sticky thread. I'm hoping to resolve this without resorting to 3rd party utilities. :-)

There have been closed-lid issues since the 10.5.2/Graphics/KB updates.

Apple confirms "closed-lid" issue is a known bug - MacFixIt

I had quite some problems getting closed-lid mode to work at all on my 2.4 GHz MBP even though it worked like a charm before the updates. The trouble was that when I woke it in closed-lid mode, I saw my desktop background briefly appear on the external monitor and then my MBP would go right back to sleep. Waking it would start the whole cycle again.

What did work was booting in closed-lid mode (press the button and immediately close the lid). Up to the next reboot I could get closed-lid mode to work again.

Other than that, I think we'll have to wait till Apple fixes the big with the next software update.

Crap. I didn't even suspect the product update. (Is there any way to roll these back, short of re-installing?)

That first link you sent me basically documents the trouble I've been having. THANK YOU for the link. At least if Apple is aware of it a fix should be forthcoming.

This has been happening to me and I do not use it in closed-lid mode.

Actually I think I'm like Corpitguy now .... the laptop won't wake up at all. Cursed 10.5.2 update!

Does anyone know how to uninstall these updates?

Archive and install from you 10.5 DVD. Not sure where to find the 10.5.1 combo updater, though.

It's the first point release. No combo updater for it.

Eeek ... not really a rollback. Not sure I want to do that while I'm on the road. Sounds like it could cause some other unexpected problems. I think I'll just be doing shutdowns and no sleeps for a few weeks. (I'll be home again in late March.)

Have you tried both PRAM and SMC resets?

Yes ... it seems to have helped quite a bit.

I have not yet tried this with an external monitor. (Because I'm on the road at the moment)

Okay, i guess I meant standalone, and not the SW update thingy. Can it be had?
