I know there have been several posts on there about the Wallstreet and OS X.

But let me post yet again a problem that is not well documented.

I do have 10.2.8 installed on one Wallstreet, with OS 9 on the second partition (60 gb HD). Let us call this Wallstreet A (WA). WA also has 512 mb RAM on a Crescendo (Sonnet) 500 MHZ G3 upgrade card. Everything works. I can boot into 9.2.2 and boot into X (10.2.8) with no problems. I have not used XPOST FACTO on this machine as it is not required.

Now, I have another mint Wallstreet (Wallstreet B - WB) that has a 100 GB HD, with Tiger (10.4.4) installed on the first partition (7.39 GB), and OS 9.2.2 on the second partition (80+ GB). I was able to boot into OS 9 several times with the stock 233 processor with 320 mb RAM (upgraded the RAM). Now, when I tried booting into OS 9 in WB with the upgrade card in it (taken from WA), no go. While it does boot, the screen is blank. The screen never shuts on and I cannot see anything, even with a flash light shone on it. Even starting up from a CD (OS 9) will not kick the screen in. However, it DOES boot up into 9, I can hear it and when I booted from the CD, I could hear the CD being read for close to 2 minutes so I knew it booted fine. I then switched back to the original 233 card in WB and all was well. No problems.

I found a post over at this site that might be the solution:

Powerbook Wallstreet Sonnet G3 cpu motherboard compatibility - Apple Hardware

Reflashing the card? Well, makes sense, but then this:

Now, I took the upgrade processor card from WB, and put it back in WA. But I also removed the 100 GB HD from WB and installed it in WA. It worked (screen came on), it booted into OS 9 and into Tiger. However, as mentioned, the 100 GB HD in WB and the upgrade chip cause a blank screen. Only the original 233 mhz chip will work in WB such that the screen will function normally.

So, WA, with the 100 GB HD and processor upgrade card running Tiger and OS 9 boots with full screen showing. But, the processor card in WB causes a blank screen. If the card needs to be flashed, then why does it work in WA? This tells me that perhaps something is changed to the Wallstreet's firmware on the logic when flashing the processor chip?

Another problem. On WA, while I could boot into Tiger, the colors were purple purpleish, and there were purple like tracers left behind from windows that had been minimized, etc.

Any ideas for any of this stuff?

Offhand and being a smartass I'd say quit being cheap and buy an MBP.
Backups are like guns and condoms. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Hi freudling, I have a Powerlogix 500Mhz Bluechip processor for my Wallstreet. I do remember reading about the different upgrades, and it's possible that it may be a RAM issue. Some upgrade chips are sensitive to some RAM configurations. Wouldn't hurt to swap the RAM from WA to WB and see what happens. Good luck!

Weird issue. What I was going to say for WB is that it seems almost like your OS X partition is over 8 GB, but I see that's not the case.
Also, as for Tiger being weird on WA, I think you might have a bad Tiger DVD.
