My old ibook's screen is busted, so I cant see anything on there and I was wondering what I can do to be able to transfer files into my new MACbook.

Thanks!

Restarting the iBook while holding down the "T" key will put it into "Target Disk" mode, where the computer will act simply as an external hard drive when hooked up to another machine via Firewire (and Firewire ONLY).

It will mount as an external drive, you can pull all your data off, the end.

So I did what you said, and when the MAC HD icon appeared on my desktop, the folder was empty, which makes no sense since there is a bunch of stuff on the old one. Did I do something wrong?

It doesn't sound like you've done it wrong, have you tried it again since?

Sometimes, with Target Mode, I've found that if the hard drive isn't showing up right, it helps to unplug the FireWire cable (dismounting the drive first if it's on the Desktop) and re-plug it in while the other Mac is still in Target Mode.

so , I unplugged and tried again and it worked fine! except for one thing, I could only find files in one of the three users that was on that computer. When I entered the folder for the other users, it was empty. Hmmm... Any suggestions?

That's really bizarre. I'd first back up all the files you can see (just in case), then try dismounting, disconnecting, and reconnecting again and see if it's any different.
