will doing this void my apple care? Also has anyone done this. also for those who are like why 7200 and not a larger drive with slower speed. Well its what i need for what i do. any help would be sweet. Technically you will not void your warranty if you install the drive yourself, provided you did not damage any components in the process of installing it. If you do damage something, then your out of luck

Realistically, it will be difficult to convince apple that if a component did fail and they notice that the case was opened up (because a non-stock drive was there).

Your best bet to keep the warranty intact is to have the drive installed by an authorized apple dealer

Many authorized Service Providers (not all retailers are service providers) will install your drive for very little cost, in the $30-$60 range. If THEY do it, your warranty stays intact. If you do it, you take a significant risk that it could be voided.

Doing anything can void your applecare. If the machine stops working, just replace the original HD and send it to Applecare. Same with any original RAM.

I had Applecare tell me that WPerfect for Mac was the source of my HD problem (on a Blueberry iBook) since it didn't come INSTALLED ON THE MACHINE.
He can be fixed -- you can't.

That is a good idea. I think that I will do that. Now one more question. If I use a program like superDuper and make a copy of my dirve. Will this also include my bootcamp side with windows xp?
