Hi,

I'm new to Mac OS and I had a question regarding third party software updates. How do third parties ship their software updates for Mac OS? i.e How are new driver downloaded on Mac? Will Software updates get the latest drivers for hardware on my machine or will I have to go the driver providers site to get drievers?

Thanks

Apple's Software Update feature only provides updates to Apple's software. Third party updates are downloaded from company sites or other third party mechanisms.

Drives for Apple hardware are provided by Apple, usually within point updates (like 10.5.3) or separately if it's really important via Software Update. Drivers for other hardware; like printers, are supplied by the manufacturer. Depending on the manufacturer will depend on whether it updates automatically or whether it needs to be updated manually.
