Hi,

I seem to be having some trouble with the volume control on my MBP. When I try and change the volume, the overaly comes up with the speaker symbol and the bar along the bottom but thats greyed out and there's a 'no symbol' (circle with line though it) beneath it. I was searching around and I found this thread: No Sound in Mac OS 10.5.2 - MacTalk Forums except I still get sound and it only happens in Windows Vista, not in OS X.

From the sound of the thread it's something to with the MBP thinking some other device is controlling the device and it can't change it. But i've tried disbling the digital audio devices but I get the same problem.

Noone seems to want to respond on the apple forums. Beside you gusy seem much more knowledgable.

Any ideas?

I'm running a late 2007 15" MBP 2.4GHz , OS X 10.5.2, Vista Ultimate 32-bitvia boot camp

Stupid question, but did you install the Boot Camp drivers in Vista from the Leopard install disk? And if this is a Boot Camp problem only, you probably should have posted in the Alternative OS forum. I can move the thread if you'd like.

This is a common problem - there are many threads about it - it seems to be an issue with the laptop thinking an optical out is connected.

Yeah got the leopard boot camp drivers installed, vene tried reinstalling them, no avail.

Yea, I did a bit mroe digging and found it's related to the optical audio connection. Thing is the red light isn't on and I've disabled the digital input/output. This only happens in Vista. In the audio control panel it seems to think the digital connection is plugged in I think. (they arn't greyed out likethe back panel (analogue) audio in/out). Is there a way (apart from restarting 14 times) to force it to think there isn't? (e.g. registry hack?)
