I just got off the phone with a client who told me she just bought a used clamshell iBook that is running both a Mac OS and Win 98.

Is that even possible?

Also, were the clamshells capable of using an Airport card or some sort of WiFi?

Thank you.

I will look into that. I did not know that a clamshell was powerful enough to run that.

It runs, but it certainly doesn't run well.

You'd be surprised. Emulation under OS 9 was a hell of a lot more robust than it is under OS X on the same hardware.

Um, it was also emulating much less demanding things than most people are emulating on OS X.

Huh?

Windows 98 w/ VPC under OS 9 > Windows 98 w/ VPC under OS X

I don't know why any additional information would be required when pointing out something that is blatantly obvious to anybody who has experience with VPC on both 9 and X.

I don't doubt you, but having run Win95/98 on G3 iMacs under OS8/9 it's not something I'd recommend to anyone. Buy an old PC and use RDP for a much more satisfying setup.

Thank you all for the feedback.

I have yet to lay eyes on this machine.

Well, I got the machine in my hands today.

It was indeed running Win 98 in Virtual PC and Mac OS 9.2 Amazingly, it ran pretty well too. I was surprised.

Who knew that a Clamshell iBook G3 @ 366mhz could run it so well.

Anyway, I got Mac OS working as well as possible. if anyone has any ideas as how to make sure OS9 is in tip top shape, I would be happy to hear them.

Make sure you have 9.2.2 installed, I just went from 9.2.1 to .2 yesterday on my Wallstreet and it was a bit quicker. Also, she should have the RAM maxxed if she wants to run 98 with decency. You can also look for extraneous extensions that might be ruining startup times.
