I'm thinking of purchasing a laptop off of Craigs List, that is if I can find one that is within my price range. Anyway is their some way of determining the "health" of a laptop prior to purchase? Not being an "expert" on Apple computers any help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about a general overall usage statistics? Or something of the sort? I'm not too sure if there is a way to do that. If it is on Craigslist it should have some description of the condition it is in. But I would feel the same way I would like to no more in detail on how the notebook is before purchase. Good Luck!
