MBP Won't Turn On after hard drive upgrade

I performed an HDD upgrade on my MBP (which wasn't nearly as bad as it looks) and was careful to avoid touching anything on the main logic board and to avoid static. After putting in the new HDD and attempting to hit the power button, nothing happened. I tried all of Apple's tricks on pressing CTRL-CMD-Power, resetting the power manager, resetting the PRAM and nothing worked.
I then decided I had to take everything back apart to make sure all of the ribbon cables are solid. I can't see anything in side that indicates a problem. I even put back the original HDD and it still won't turn on. I did notice that when I press the power but button, the fans twitch and make a faint clicking noise. Also, I get this same behavior whether on battery or AC power.
Any ideas what may be going on? Did I somehow kill the logic board? Any help is appreciated!

Can you boot from the original OS disc while holding down "d" and run the diagnostic?

Tinkered,
Thanks for the reply. I don't think I can. The computer doesn't power on even enough to get the DVD in the drive let alone get to the white screen where I can press the D key.

Does it boot with no HDD connected? Have you got ALL of the screws back into the correct holes? It could be shorting out somewhere.

Thanks for the replies. I tried both with the HDD ribbon cable not connected (which gave me no twitching at all on the fans which is logical) as well as with the HDD ribbon cable connected, but no HDD. I was also very careful about organizing each type of screw for each step of disassembly in it's own container so I'm positive that they all went back in the proper locations. I also checked cables and what not for obvious signs of screw damage or signs that the top-case pinched them, but I don't see anything.

I think the key here is the keyboard ribbon cable, not the hard drive. Make sure it is inserted correctly and firmly seated. It can be a little tricky to get right. Try connecting this cable and turning on the machine while the top case is still off (tricky, but possible). That will insure that it's not something shorting. Also try reseating the memory just to be safe.
