Hello, my name is Richard and I'm thinking about buying a white macbook. But I very iffy about some things I've read about the 1st generations of Macbooks like:
1) Discoloration on palm rest and other areas.
2) Hair line cracks and some what big cracks on plastic casing.
3) Macbook getting real hot under regular usage.

Did apple fixed all these issues for the newer macbooks (2008)? I know I have read here that Apple replaced the case for people affected by this but that does not necessarily mean that it's been fixed as it could happened again if they didn't make the case from other better materials. And my last question is that I have Office 2003 pro and Office 2007 Student for Windows Xp and I paid a lot for these, but would I be able to install it on a mac.
Thanks for your help in advance.

The new macbooks are free of the the issues that plagued the first generation ones. You'll be able to use your windows versions of MS office, but you'll need a copy of XP sp2 so that you can install them. The Macbook in my sig has been trouble free since Nov. 2007

Richard,
welcome to the church of Apple. Here you will find you can do all that you wish without fear of retribution from the Cult of MS

Yes I just bought a whitebook about 2 months ago and it's free from all the previous problems. One word though on office. You will need to install WinXP first on either the boot camp or Parallels or VMWare software. If you want to run windows at the same time as your Mac OS, you'll have to use Parallels or VMWare. If you dont care and can do without then you can install windows on the bootcamp partition and boot to it when needed.

But I suspect you're asking because you want to use office but you dont want to install windows. If that's correct, then the only option for you to do is to buy the new version of MS office for the mac. Yes. MS makes Office for the mac. Amazing stuff actually since the first version of office was made FOR the Mac.. not the PC. So you'll have to decide for yourself what you'd like to do.
Version 1:
Use bootcamp and install xp then install office and boot to it when needed.

Version 2
Use Parallels OR VM and install windows xp and then install office then use it when ever needed

Version 3
Buy Office for the Mac.

Seems pretty simple. There are things to consider such as do you have a windows xp cd and key code to install... are you comfortable installling windows, antispyware, antivirus....

Or would you like to just sell all your windows software via craigslist and use the money to buy Mac versions? See if you're only using windows for office.. its usually better to just by the mac version. But if there's other things you're doing in windows like games, autocad... creating nice virus' to share with your friends.. then you'll need to be running windows and need all that goes with it.

Let me know if you've got any questions.

Backups are like guns and condoms. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
