Hi,

I was trying to install a driver package and now I get no response from my mousepad, keyboard or even a USB mouse won't work. nothing! But if I boot from the OSX disk, everything works.

These are the two files I tried installing right before the crash
http://adcdownload.apple.com/Develop....1logintel.dmg
http://adcdownload.apple.com/Mac_OS_...308.4.0log.dmg

Please help me Obi-Wan, you're my only hope.

No risk, and you won't lose anything (hence Archive & Install). Just make sure Preserve Users and Network Settings is kept turned on (it's on by default anyway) and you keep your user folders intact without having to do anything.

It's a built-in feature of the OS X Installer, and it's one of the most reliable ways to install or reinstall the OS. All your files will still be there - just be sure to choose "preserve users and network settings" after you select to Archive and Install, or else you'll have to copy over your user folder(s) manually. A few applications or utilities that install files in special locations may need to be reinstalled afterward, but most everything else will work.

Did you really need to download the files from Apple's Developer site? As the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
