Hi all,
Okay, I posted a week or so ago about getting a prohibitory icon at startup. I tried all the ways around it and got nothing. I put in a different hard drive, only to find out I had put in one that was no good, so I put the original back in. I got a firewire cable and tried firewire target mode, and it worked. I wiped the drive, installed panther, it seemed to take, because my G5 rebooted off the ibook drive while still in target mode. When I did the install, I used Disk Utility, of course, but when I selected the drive, it said that the SMART status was NOT SUPPORTED, is that normal? I ran "verify disk" and "repair disk" twice, and it came back okay, but, when I restarted the ibook on its own, I got the circle/slash again. So...
Does this suggest bad logic board? Bad RAM? Any other suggestions? I hate to lose, and I do NOT want this iBook to beat me. What other tests can I do to isolate the problem area? Any and all help would be great. Thanks.
I've already tried:
Safe Mode
Single User Mode
Verbose Mode
Startup Manager
Open Firmware works, but I can't get it to actually fix anything
It will NOT startup from a CD
Thanks,
Tom
