Well, my little sister is moving to a different city for University. So to help her out I gave her my MacBook and a bunch of accessories. She only needs it for notes, music and Facebook really, so it will work perfect.

Just finished reinstalling Leopard, Office 2008, and a buncha other things for her too. The whole time I was setting it up, it was so sad haha! I have had this MacBook for 2 years and the only problem I have had was I needed to replace my optical drive a few months back. The original battery still lasts a good 3 hours too!

I am just trying to think of some other ideas I could use to help her out. She's not overly tech savvy, and I am like her personal IT guy.

She has all the original disks for the OS, Office, etc. I dunno if I should make a disk with extra plug-ins (flip4mac, perian, etc).

Anyone have some ideas I could do to help her out? Like a drivers/plug-in CD? Maybe a CD with some .pdf tutorials for using things like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi etc.?

I'm sad to see my faithful MacBook go, but I am also super excited for buying a new one!

Best tip to teach her: Use the Help menu!!

Why write a guide yourself when it's all right there? I can't tell you how many times a problem my mother-in-law (and many others) have had that is clearly answered with a simple search in the built-in help.

And why make a drivers CD? It's a Mac. She shouldn't need any new drivers. And anything she needs she can download off the web.

Yeah I should just teach her about the Help menu, good idea haha. I never use it since I am more of an advanced user, so I always forget! As for a drivers CD, bad choice of words. I meant more for plug-ins for Quicktime, Safari etc.

Get her setup with iChat so you can do screen sharing for some long distance tech support.

iChat is an excellent idea, thanks guys!

Any recommendations for perhaps a remote desktop setup? Just in case something goes horribly wrong lol.

iChat with screen sharing would be your remote desktop.

Haha can you tell I'm not an iChat user?

Most people I know only use MSN Messenger, whether Mac or Windows. I will set up an account for troubleshooting if needed then.

Cheers everybody!
