A friend of mine has a line going through his 17" Powerbook G4. It is out of warranty. Any ideas getting something like that replaced? i.e. how much does it costs and any recommended places? Thanks.

I bought a screen from here:
http://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1...roductid=16633

They were the cheapest I could find, and you have to change the screen yourself, which is pretty tricky but not impossible.

If you are looking at a place where they would replace the screen and do all the required work, your friend would probably be looking at about 800 bucks.

I wouldn't do it. Just put that money towards a new machine, and get a cheap external LCD to use in the mean time.

I agree you can get a 17" MBP for $1000-1400!

Sell it or keep as a back-up for emergency or for email use for guests!

Yeah, I told the guy the same thing. But he is an older guy and goes on how he paid $3000 for the machine. I didn't want to tell him that the machine was only worth about $500 bucks even if the screen is perfect...
