Hi All

I've searched through the forums and didn't find anything specific to my topic.

Here are my specs:

MBP 2.0
2 GB RAM
100 GB HD (standard issue 5400 rpm)
256 MB x1600 ATI

So here's my concern:

This MBP was the first generation MBP that was plagued with heat issues. When in use it is quite hot to the touch....known issue.... I'm now contemplating in upgrading the HD to something bigger as I'm running out of space. However, I am eying at Seagate Momentus 200 GB but at 7200 RPM. With the higher RPMs, am I going to have even higher operating temperatures that I'm experiencing now? Am I better off in playing it safe in getting a bigger HD but at 5400 RPM?

Please let me know if anyone has taken the 7200 RPM route on these hot first generation MBPs and what your experiences were? Any heat issues? Are you running stable with the 7200 RPM HD?

Thanking you in advanced!

Eggie

Been discussed over and over in this forum... the difference in power consumption/heat output is tiny (tenths of a watt at best) and sometimes in favor of the new 7200RPM drives compared to the old 5400RPM drives.

Swapping the drive in the MBP enclosure is such a hassle I'd suggest the 320GB/7200RPM at $160ish.

No problems are to be expected.

Yep. Just do it.

The bigger the better. Heat and power are of no concern. Noise however is different depending on the different brands and models. I'd make sure you get something with a reputation of being silent.

My latest Seagate 7200 rpm drive for instance is not as quiet as I'd like it to be.
