Whenever i close the lid on my macbook the light starts blinking as though it is sleeping, but when i open it, it start up as though i shut it down.

We need more information than that. What MacBook? How old? We need hardware specifications, what OS you're using, how do you use your MacBook, e.g. connected to an external display.

Does your battery work properly?
