I'm swapping some advertising space for switching out a screen in a MBP 15in. I've been given the screen which came from the far east and while not a genuine apple part is sold as suitable for this Mac.

Anyway, all seemed to go well and I've got the MBP back together. On first start up the screen flicked into life nice and brightly but the grey apple logo was pretty faint. Then I could see the log in screen but it looked as if the brightness and contrast were way out. No probs I thought I'll just log in and adjust the calibration and bingo!

But before I could do that the screen switched to just showing some "streaks", basically coloured pixels but repeated vertically downwards in lines, but not all over the screen.

I restarted the Mac after resetting the PRAM in case I needed to reset the video settings and now the screen lights up , flicks into brighter mode but now shows no image at all just a grey screen.

Any ideas?

Are all your video cables seated properly? Also was this a very low end LCD panel that you bought?

I didn't buy it, it came to me to fit. I wanted to fit an apple part, but yes it was pretty much the cheapest one she could find (via ebay)

If all the video cables are seated properly then I'd say the panel probably needs to be exchanged for one that is working properly.
