I ordered my new MacBook, with an APP, yesterday as soon as they got the Apple Store updated. My order hasn't shipped yet, but I am so excited.

My config will be:
- 2.0 GHz model
- 4 GB RAM
- base HD, which I'm removing to "upgrade" to a Patriot 64GB SSD (I'm gonna slide the "old" HD into an OWC USB enclosure for TM backups)

Plus, I am really looking forward to next month for the new 24" ACD!

I sold my 2.4 MBP in anticipation of these new laptops. I, for one, have no complaints about them (so far) and believe Apple has made some very good business decisions with the new models.

I can live without FW. In fact, I prefer not to have (pay for) the extra port. In fact, anything extra, to me, seems like somewhat of a waste. In fact, I would prefer not having the audio in and the useless and ubiquitous Kensington lock hole thingy, but - oh well - I understand that these are cheap to include and appreciated by some. I also think the display connection is an ingeniously bold move. When I got my MBP less than a year ago, I purposely selected non-glossy, but now I can see the advantages to the glass. The trackpad is definitely something I'm looking forward to. The new placement of the battery indicator... off the battery... is also a good move by Apple. I'm excited to see how this generation of MBs and MBPs evolves.

For your viewing pleasure, or displeasure for some whiners, I'll post pics when it all arrives.

Sometimes people that read these forums forget that we're not the norm... I have may mac friends that have never and will never use a Firewire port... and probably would point to either their Ethernet connection or video out if you asked them where the Firewire port was.

As an entry level computer, I don't think it's going to be missed too much, but it was cool being able to connect an older video camera (think 1999 era) to a brand new $999 MacBook and giving a good show with iMovie. Not that I do much with iMovie, but I'll be doing less now.

I bought one as well.

2.4 GHZ
4 GB
320 GB

I've had both the original Core Duo BlackBook and the Core 2 Duo BlackBook (which was stolen a while back...) Currently I'm borrowing someone's AIR (which I love) but ultimately decided to go with the new MacBook because of the 4 GB ram option.

I will miss the black option. Maybe http://colorwarepc.com can do something about it ;-)

Anyone else notice that the price on Apple's ram is _way_ more reasonable?

YES!

I loaded up on the RAM through Apple for this very reason. I figured, even if it is 10 bucks more than the cheapest, that's still not bad, and all my RAM will be covered under APP.
