well, there are new about faulty about the "GeForce 8600M GT" in mac book pro, and will offer replace even warranty expires, but how can i know if the chip works properly? does it work properly if nothing abnormal in my mac ? or the chip just works suboptimally and may not be noticed by users?

If there is no 'artifacting' happening on the screen when playing a game, or using Photoshop - or even just general use, then I think that it's safe to say the chip is working. Generally, if you have a graphics problem - you'll know about it.

There is no general recall, but if you affected by the issue Apple will fix it for free even if your warranty has run out.

It's a physical failure (the parts seperate), so you're not going to know until it fails.
