I am in the short term decision making process of upgrading my powerbook G4 15" notebook to a 17" Macbook Pro 2.4ghz or newer. Are all Macbook Pro's widescreen? My powerbook has a standard screen...what are the tradeoffs if I go to a widescreen now in regards to internet use and basic document reading? Thanks for your opinions, JNF

I'm a little confused: all 15" and 17" Powerbooks were widescreen so you already have a widescreen laptop. The MBPs have inherited the widescreen form factor. In fact, since the Intel switch, all Apple laptops are widescreen including the MacBooks.

Maybe I don't understand your question, but you seem to already have a widescreen display.

All of Apple's notebooks are widescreen, even the old MacBooks were. Widescreen is the future - it's really nice! I moved from a 17" 1280x1024 (5:4) desktop machine to a 13.3" 1280x800 (16:10 {or 9?}) and while the change is noticeable, I vastly prefer it.

Apple hasn't sold a non-widescreen display on or with any Mac for almost 3 years now.

One thing to notice is that the 15" PBs had a resolution of 1440x960, whereas the 15" MBP has a resolution of 1440x900. This is due to changes in the physical screen size, to bring it in line with the 16:9 ratio.
