Well, I just opened up my MBP this evening only to find that it was totally drained of battery power. It was plugged in all day at work, I unplugged it, shut it, put it in my backpack. Went off to my meetings and then came home. It has been about 5 hours since I last used it. I just now, pulled it out of my bag and opened it up to find it drained. Has this happened to anyone before? Draining of the battery while shut?? In all my years of being a powerbook and macbook user, this has actually been the first time it has happened to me.

the computer could've been woken up while in your bag or simply not have gone to sleep to begin with and drained that way. its happened to me twice before on accident.

It's happened to me only once or twice with my MBP. I'd assumed it was just waking up and draining power.

Is this a 'bug' that needs to be addressed? I thought to run the thing shut, you had to have it plugged in, with a display, keyboard and mouse paired? Or can I do some dvd encoding while my MBP is shut during my long commute in the back of my car?

My PowerBook was sometimes flaky when it came to turning on when closed. On several occasions I would open up my bag and the screen would be lit and the fans going crazy loud even though the lid was closed.

it's certainly possible to encode a dvd while the mbp is still shut, but i definitely wouldnt suggest it.
