Hey all,
I'm looking to upgrade to a new Mac, and I'm, I dunno, 70% sure I want a laptop, but I can be convinced otherwise. I currently have an original Dual-processor 2ghz G5 that's showing it's age and can't run Adobe CS4- the main reason for the new machine. I also have a 2ghz dual-core white macbook released almost exactly 2 years ago. The macbook has been a pretty big disappointment performance-wise, and it's the main reason I'm hesitant about a laptop (although I realize the new MBs and MBPs have real graphics cards instead of integrated). At my job I use a suped-up MacPro (quad core? 4gb ram? somethin' crazy ) - I'm afraid when I get all this crazy new software I'll be hamstrung if I get anything less than a MacPro.
SO! thoughts? MBP, Cheaper last revision MBP (on Amazon), Mac Pro, maybe even an iMac - Dell? (kidding). Also, of course, price is a concern, but whatever's best is best.
Looking forward to everyone's feedback,
Adam

If performance in old Adobe apps is your problem, then the graphics card in the MacBook isn't the cause. How much memory is in the MacBook? The answer to that will guide my advice for you.

My macbook has 2gb of ram - I had been running CS2 emulated which ran pretty slowly - more importantly running it 9 hours a day for a month straight killed the screen, which was replaced, and the processor, which was diagnosed as fine but I feel never quite worked as well afterward. Additionally, CS3 didn't seem to run much faster, even though it ran natively.
So yeah, 2gb of ram.

The new MacBook Pros (with support for at least 6GB RAM and maybe 8) would be a good option although if you want to keep it for a long time and don't need the portability the Mac Pro is the way to go.
The MacBook display should not have died under that light usage.
