I'm running an old very quiet PowerBook G4 and I'm considering upgrading to a new MB. Are the new MB's as quiet as my PB is? Is there a difference between the 2.0 model and the 2.4 model?

Thank you for your thoughts.

Well, the new MacBook Pro is absolutely quiet even given its two fans move at 2000 rpm, so I guess the MacBook would be pretty much the same thing, which is good.

I like the new full button trackpads based on the limited experience I've had with them. I like the feel of the cases. I don't like the glossy displays, although it's something I suppose I could get accustomed to if forced; I will never buy a Mac that lacks Firewire or the option to add it.

Yes, the Mac minis have large power supplies.

Right. Just as the OP never asked for a little FW rant, or anything about the trackpad, case, or display. And yet that is what he got.

Well I guess I expect that from BigMac and I it was related to the new macbooks so you could make a jump that the OP was asking about a MB (its noise) and Big Mac chimed in so there's at least a connection there.

There's a loose connection between Apple MacBook temperature and Apple Mac mini, as well, but that doesn't make it any more (or less) on-topic.

Look, you can take a good-natured little tease an whine about it all day if you like, or you can just accept that you didn't get it and let all of us move on.

I'm not the one who out of the blue posted about a mini in a macbook thread

I'm not the one who posted about a trackpad in a fan-noise thread

The trackpad is dodgy at the moment and makes very loud hard clicks when it does finally respond. Software update and wear+tear will fix things one day.

I upgraded form a 12-in PB (though when my fan ran, that thing was kind of noisy) to a MB (bottom of the line fo the new ones, with the aluminum casing) and it's very quiet. I love it -- though I'm having some permissions issues with migrating a big documents file from my iMac.

It is so much faster than that PB...

Take the plunge. You'll love it.

Whisper quiet. Unless you need firewire, get a aluminum macbook. You won't regret it.
