I've been hearing reports on some MBA orders seeing free updates from 120 GB HDDs to 128 GB SSDs supposedly because Toshiba can't fulfill Apple's 120 GB HDD orders. Obviously Apple is throwing $500 at each order just to get these MBAs off the production line.

Has anybody here seen his/her HDD MBA silently upgraded by Apple to an SSD?

I wonder how people would feel about it. I'm sure there are folks who don't want SSDs but rather a conventional Hard drive.

With my luck, I'd order one and get a conventional HD instead of the SSD Of course I don't have the $$ to gamble with especially with the holidays just around the corner.

That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read.
Where did you get these reports from? ireport.com?

There's a whole thread about it over at MacRumors.

Supposedly Apple is sending out e-mails to customers. They're using the term "CTO substitute base model".

Currently the high-end MBA with the SSD is shipping within 24h. The base model with the HDD is quoted as shipping in two-three weeks. Quite obviously there's a problem with the hard disks.
