Today for whatever reason i did an erase and install of leopard(i do this from time to time) everything went fine i ran all updates and all went accordingly. when i plugged up a usb hdd to transfer my itunes i couldnt get the mac to recognize that the usb drive was plugged in. after trying several times i restarted the mac. now all i get is a white screen before the apple logo comes up and its stuck there. when i try to boot from disc i get nothing. when i hold the option key a mouse cursor comes up but there no options like macbook hd or mac osx leopard install disc. i am fairly competant with computers but this has me stumped i have no idea what to do. the macbook is about seven months out of warranty so i cant call apple. please help!!!

I don't think I have a solid solution, but I am curious to know why ("from time to time") you erase and re-install Leopard? To update an OS from scratch means updating a myriad of native apps as well, not to mention 3rd parties. Your OS must be time-warping..

My next move would be to Target with another Mac and hopefully find and correct a fixable hard drive problem.
