My wife's Macbook, 13inch 2.0Ghz, 2 GB RAM, running Leopard, has a 60GB HDD with around 10GB space left.

This only started today. When I switch on her Mac, it starts, but then the monitor switches off (or it seems to go to sleep), then you wait a few seconds, press escape or the power button and it's on again, either for a few minutes or seconds.

a Few times I've managed to open preferences etc, copy her data to an external HDD.

I've started formatting her Mac, it was halfway through when the monitor switched off again, or it went to sleep. I didn't think it'd happen when formatting her Mac, as it erases all the data and problems.

Thanx

Does the display go on or off as you raise or lower the screen? You could have a problem with the display connector or backlight cable.

Simpler than that though, have you checked the Energy Saver preferences for when the display is put to sleep?

Don't think it's the dislpay, the mac seems to go to sleep when it does that, you the leave it about 10secs, press esc and it'll come back on and when it does, it checks the DVD drive 1st and the come on, it'll then stay on for anything between a second or 20 mins or 20 mins or 2 mins or 5 mins, well you get the idea.

I've managed as well last night to reinstall Leopard, but even with installation it kept on happening.

Also when it comes back on, any process that was running, just resumes where it left of.

Cheers

It's the battery. I just disconnected the battery, plugged it into the mains and it's working perfectly. I'll want to buy a new battery, but not for €130. Anyone knows where I can get one cheaper???
