I have a macbook pro (17") that's about 6-months old. I just purchased a new 24" LED Mac monitor--it's quite nice and has built-in camera and mic. However, it also has a mini-DVI connector which I did not realize until I got it home. I have looked on the web for a DVI to mini-DVI adapter with no luck. (I find mini-DVI to DVI but not the reverse.) It's hard to imagine that there won't be others who buy a new monitor for a macbook pro that's a few months' old so I can't imagine why apple or 3rd party wouldn't make an adapter to facilitate such purchases? Any advice? Thanks in advance.

It's not mini-DVI; it's mini-DisplayPort.
There are no adapters on the market to solve your problem - yet.
It shouldn't take long, though.

There is currently no way to connect it to your Mac.
It is spelled out quite clearly on Apple's web site that it only works with the newly released Macbook, Macbook Air and Macbook Pro.
Adapters are possible but I wouldn't count on it.

I was considering to get that monitor but there are so many limitations to it and most of all its EXPENSIVE for what it is. I'd rather get a Dell 24".

One question: is the Dell using an LED backlight? Having moved over to an LED-backlit screen on my MBP, I would never, ever want to go back. Aside from the increased brightness, the fading on CCFLs is something of a concern.

From my knowledge no. I love the screen on the new MBPs and the glass really isn't bad or as bad as people make it out to be. I take my MBP from home to school and the glare really isn't much of a bother. If I do get an external monitor it would be a 22" or 24". They even have portrait mode, which the Apple LED one doens't have. The 24" 2408WFP which has S-Video and HDMI and its substantially cheaper than Apples LED.

I actually seriously considered getting the 2408WFP. It has a lot going for it: the sheer number of inputs, the panel, and the price. As far as I can see, it only has two real downsides: it doesn’t look nice (very, very minor), and it’s still CCFL (less minor).
Once they release an LED version of it, I think I will be hard-pressed to resist it, especially since I’m locked out of the whole miniDP gig for the time being.

Uh, I don't think they look too bad. The HD monitors they have now with the rounded corners I think don't look nice at all. They also just released a newer line of LCD monitors but I don't like those either, especially the stands. I don't think Dell will come out with LED monitors anytime soon. Other brand monitors don't look as nice and are huge for what they are. ie. Samsung.
