Repair/Upgrade question:

The first generation Aluminum Powerbooks (A1046 models) came in 1ghz and 1.25ghz. Other than the faster processor and RAM/HD config, the 1.25 came with a backlit keyboard. My question is this: can I successfully install a working keyboard and ambient light sensors (in fact the entire top portion of the casing/trackpad assembly) into the 1ghz model and have the backlight/autosensing function? Or is there something else on the logic board/general circuitry of the 1.25ghz model that precludes this?

Any insight is welcome. Thanks in advance.

The first 15" Al models came as 1 GHz and 1.25 GHz in Sep/Oct 2003. The 1 GHz model didn't have a backlit KB, but there was a BTO option to get it.
