I was thinking the other day about buying a new MacBook Pro and thought about all those 4 technologies that are on the verge of becoming mainstream possibly within the next year.
Do you think Apple will be integrating those developments into their lines sometime within the next year or so?

• Core i7 (Clarksfield) will come to the MBP in 4Q09 or 1Q10.
• USB3 controllers are scheduled for 1H10. I imagine Apple will be very anxious to integrate USB3 into Macs as soon as it becomes available.
• Blue Ray will not be bundled with Macs in the near future.
• SSD drives are already available with the MBP as BTO. But HDDs as an option will stick around for quite a while.

So 3 out of 4.
Did Apple not support the Blue Ray camp when it came to endorsing a side?
Why is it taking so freaking long to get them installed.
Is there any other "revolutionary" tech that is going to be worth the wait?

Apple didn't really take sides in the HD-DVD vs. BR battle. Although IIRC they were in some kind of BR consortium.
Their position today is that they don't like the BR DRM scheme. And of course they'd much rather sell you HD content through their iTS than offer BR player support.
If you're interested for BR for storage you can buy drives and use them with your Mac today. But I wouldn't count on built-in BR or a BR BTO option from Apple anytime soon.

Guess they must hate me watching DVDs I've rented rather than downloading from the iTunes Store.

That is too bad, but the other new tech coming soon will be more than enough I suppose. I just wanted to wait till the new techs were implemented so that the new laptop would be god for many many years to come (like my my old iMac DV+ *just died last year*) without being envious of something "new" coming out that if I had just waited a bit longer.....
Upgrades and improvements to current tech is inevitable but the new the new Core i7, USB 3, and better larger SSD's are something to wait for I think.
Who knows, maybe while I am waiting Blue Ray will be shoved out the door too!
