I saw on apple refurb and there are several off them with high res display and glossy also just wide screen. So what is the real difference? is it really visible?
There used to be an option on the 17" MBP to have a High-Res verson, or not. The standard resolution was something like 1680*1050, whereas the High-Res is 1920*1200
Higher Resolution just equals more space or screen real estate. Being that it's a 17" High-Res it has the same resolution as most 23"-24" lcd's but everything will be smaller on your 17" due to the size of the actual screen.

Translation, text, graphics, and stuff are much smaller. Some people have issues reading the screens on those high resolution displays and that needs to be taken into account if the buyer is considering that.
