So I just received a free macbook that is in very bad shape. Among it's many issues, it seems it's optical drive is trashed. Its a 1.83ghz white macbook. Do these models have SATA optical drives? I ask because I'm going to be getting a brand new mac mini soon, and I'm going to be modifying it and won't be using it's optical drive. Will it fit in the macbook?

No, the older MBs used PATA drives. Apart from that, IIRC the Mac mini's optical is a 12.5mm device, the MB's OTOH is 9mm.
