I have a MacBook Pro Santa Rosa (2.2GB), and it was working just fine, then I restarted and the screen won't turn on. I checked the brightens settings, and I removed all of the attached inputs (keyboard, mouse, battery, etc...). I went to Finder on my iMac and my MacBook Pro came up in the shared area, so I remote contacted via Screen Sharing and all of my files and such are coming up just fine. Now I know that my hard drive hasn't died.

So I went to System Preferences->Display and I noticed that the resolution of 1440 x 900 isn't available. All I can choice from is 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 1024, 1680 x 1050. I've never had the option of choosing 1024 x 768, or 1280 x 1024, 1680 x 1050 before.

So I changed the resolution to 1024 x 768, and still nothing came up on my display. Has the backlight on my display died, or is this just a setting issue?

That's not the backlight, it's the Nvidia GPU failing. Mine just did the same today. Box arrives from Apple on Monday to send it in for repair. The logic board will need replacement.

It's covered for a few years after the regular warranty as it's a known defect.
