I recently bought the new 17" MBP, and I am trying to connect my Sony Handycam DCR-HC26 by firewire 400 via a Dynex express card. I used this same camera on my old macbook pro with no problems. I've also used this express card to attach other firewire 400 devices on this MBP. I'm not sure what the problem is, but both Final Cut and iMovie '09 won't recognize that the camera is connected. I would rather use iMovie, as I'm not yet experienced with Final Cut. Any ideas? Please help. Thanks!

Something wrong with the built-in FW? Have you contacted the manufacturer or checked their website for compatibility?

He's probably under the popular misconception that the FW800 port is somehow incompatible with older FireWire devices.

It's not. Just get a 9-pin to 4-pin cable and your camcorder will work fine, without having to use an ExpressCard.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

The DCR-HC26 works FINE with older MBPs. I have both and have had great experiences getting video off the camera and into the computer. This was with a FW400 port, of course. But since FW800 is indeed compatible with FW400 devices, it should work just fine using the adapter cable CharlesS suggested.
