I have one of the white plastic MacBooks, which I purchased in August 2006. The hard drive died a few days ago and I'm going to replace it myself. What technology is compatible with the MacBook? I know it's a 2.5" SATA drive, but is that 1.5GB/s or 3.0GB/s? Also, is the MacBook compatible with 2.5" SATA-II solid state disk drives?

Thanks!

FWIW, MacTracker says 1.5Gb SATA.

There is no such thing as SATA-II, it's a misnomer. Don't worry about bus speed. Any 2.5" SATA will work. Get a disk because of the disk, not the bus space.

A 7200 rpm drive may speed up access, but also may increase how often the fan comes on.

It's a myth that 7200 rpm drives run hotter or use more power. The biggest and fastest 7200 rpm drive available today (Seagate Momentus 7200.4) actually uses less power than many 5400 rpm drives.

I stand corrected!
Thanks, Simon!
