I JUST TURNED ON MY MAC BOOK PRO 15" AND PART OF THE SCREEN HAS A HORIZONTAL BLACK LINE AND ABOVE THAT IS A WHITE SPOT WHERE NOTHING SHOWS. IT SEEMS THAT THE FUNCTIONS UNDERNEATH WORK BUT I'M HAVING TO FIND THEM BLIND. HELP! THE MAC WILL BE 2 YRS OLD IN DEC.

All caps not necessary. Restart and is the problem still there?

Thanks for the reply. I did restart and if anything it seems to be getting worse. The white spot at the top has an arc in it now and is getting larger.

could you take a screenshot? if you open windows or move things around on screen does it change at all or remain the same?

how do I take a screen shot? I have a picture, but not sure how to post it. When I touch the sides of the screen frame and move it up and down, it changes, mostly gets worse. I also have very thin colored lines going up and down.

yeah, I would say it sounds like a cable has come undone, given that it changes when you move the hinge.

Or worse, the cable is damaged and creates some weird shorts ?

yeah true... either way it doesn't sound like a huge issue in terms of costly repair... do you have Applecare?

Yes I'm sure I have applecare. I'm in a remote area and will probably have to travel to get it somewhere. Have lots of bookkeeping to do for the end of the month for our business, hope it holds out!

Call them and tell them the issue, they can overnight you a box and usually have it overnighted back the next day, you'll be without it for 2 and a half days if your experience is anything like mine.

Hi, I got my Mac back! I was told by applecare that it was a "damage" issue and a crack in the screen ( which I did not see ) not covered by applecare, so the cost would be $1259.95 for a new LCD screen! I was beside myself and explained that this was a precious gift from my husband and I would not handle it in a way to cause damage. After speaking to a supervisor and 45min. on the phone they lowered the price to $340. I had them go ahead and replace the screen and I got it back Wednesday, the 5th. They put in a really nice screen ( 1440 x 900 ) and I don't seem to have lost any info! I'm just glad it's back and in great shape. Manival
