Does the battery menu bar icon say it's charging when you're plugged in? Does the MagSafe plug show an orange LED, a green one or no light at all? Does the charger get warm? If it remains cold, that's an indicator it's not charging. Keep in mind that doesn't necessarily mean the charger is broken. It could be your battery or even your Mac.
1) Check fuse
2) Try another outlet
3) Try another charger
4) Reset PRAM and SMC
5) Remove battery to see if the charging problem is related to battery
6) Recalibrate battery

If the PRAM reset and SMC do not work as Simon suggested then I would say your battery gave up and may need a new one but if you have a local apple store and it's under warranty have them look at it. Also have a look and see if there is a recall on your model laptop for the battery.

I'd say we can establish the battery's status once the OP has reported on the results of steps 1-6.
If under warranty Apple will replace the battery for free. Note however, that if it turns out to be the charger Apple will always replace it (except of course in case of obvious abuse) regardless of the warranty.

Are you able to power the laptop without the battery and power supply plugged in?

If you can not turn your laptop on with the power supply/plug plugged in then this would mean either your power supply/adapter is bad or logicboard.
Take the laptop into an Apple Service store or if you know someone with a MacBook or MacBook Pro test their power adapter. This will at least rule out your adapter on your own.

In that case good idea. Take it in, see what they have to say. If the Apple store people determine the charger's dead (likely) they will replace it for free. If it's the MLB (not as likely), you better have AppleCare.
