In System Profiler it says Maximum Firewire speed is 400 MB/sec. Is this 800? Thanks!

LOL... no you only have FW400 (FW800 is a squarer plug)

Canon 5DII | EF 24-105mm IS USM | EF 100-400mm L IS USM | 50mm 1.8mkII

A FireWire 400 port looks like this:

whereas a FireWire 800 port looks like this:

Simply check the side of your Mac to see which one of these ports you see, and you'll know whether you have FireWire 400 or 800.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

In my car's manual it says engine displacement is 3.2L. Does my car have a 6.4 liter engine?

Yes, it's called inflation.

The '400' or '800' in the 'Firewire' term refers to the speed of the data connection. Unfortunately, while mduell's response above was clever, a lot of MacNN users don't know beans about cars, so the analogy is lost on them.

And turtle, that inflation you refer to is FROM beans, not engines.

Posting guidelines say I should be kind to other posters. Does that mean I can act like a dick?

How was mduell's post not kind?
He didn't call the OP names, he just reiterated the question a little differently.

Also, if it's not a MacBook Pro, the it's either FireWire 400 or none at all.

Der Ton macht die Musik.

You can be insulting without calling someone an asshole, you know.

How about the iMac then? It's basically a notebook without a battery.

I don't think his comment was insulting.

It was a smack on the OP's head though...
