All of a sudden my Mac Power book pro 17in G4 will not start up. It was on and working and I went away from the computer, came back a few minutes later and the screen was black. The white light is on on the front of the computer by the latch button. I turned off the comp and tried to reboot. Nothing happens and I don't hear the chime or anything except a little noise and hum but not the usual hum of the HD spinning up etc. I tried everything recommended like reseting the parameter ram and removing the battery and holding the startup button but nothing works,. I tried to start from the Startup CD and that doesn't work either and now I cant even get the cd out of the drive by holding the trackpad key during startup.

I have a 17 in Powerbook G4 also and I'm wondering if I can use any of the components from that laptop to trouble shoot the Powerbook pro.

HELP!!!!

...do you mean MacBook Pro by any chance? No such thing as a PowerBook Pro. If so, no, not much is compatible between the 17" PBG4 and the MBP. They are even slightly different dimensions.

Was it exceptionally hot when it died? What was the machine doing at the time?

Which MacBook Pro is it specifically? as in Core Duo or Core 2 Duo, and then also what speed.

Try reseating the RAM, always a good place to start.
