Just got an MBP pre-unibody (wanted a matte screen) off fleaBay. Machine works well, save for the completely dead battery.

Any suggestions on where to get an affordable (and hopefully reliable?) replacement. I'm not really interested in spending the $130 an Apple replacement would be. Does anybody have experience with eBay-sourced ones - there seems to be a 60WH one from China claiming MBP compatibility for ~$45. Or are there other places I should be looking?

just two notes:

1. 15" Unibody MacBook Pros have been available with matte screens for some months now.

2. If you go for a cheap knock-off battery, be sure to factor in the price of a good home fire insurance when you make your price calculations.

Didn't know they'd added back the matte screen option. Cool! Still, I prefer the older AlBook/MBP design.

As to fire insurance, fair enough. I take it you're saying there are no good options save for ponying up the $130 to Apple?

Thanks for the link Steve. I ended up just biting the bullet on an Apple battery as the FastMac has been out of stock for a while.
