hey guys, I bought the new macbook pro about a week ago and last night I left it turned on. When I woke up in the morning, the machine had frozen and so I turned it off. After I turned it on, all I heard was a clicking noise, the startup sound, and a blank, white, screen. It's not even showing the little turning wheel or anything at all, just a white screen. I have no idea what might be causing it so I'd appreciate any comments anyone has to say about this. Thanks

clicking can indicate a failed hard drive. Call Apple to have it repaired (they will ship you a prepaid return box) or make an Apple Store genius bar appointment.

In the interim you should run the apple hardware test. Insert your macbook pro restore DVD and hold down the d key at startup.

thanks man, I tried that and it didn't work. Nothing happened and the DVD got stuck in the drive, the mac is basically 100% unresponsive

within a week, it's technically DOA so they should just replace it with a new one if you take it back to the store you bought it from.

To eject DVD during bootup, press & hold the "space bar".

As for your problem, press & hold the "option" key during bootup. If you hard drive is not totally dead, it should show up as a bootup option.

If it's clicking, it sounds like a dead HDD to me and as others have already said, Apple should just swap it out.

I always use the spacebar to eject the disc during startup.

Not only that. I tap it to make the key it registered during startup.

When the first disc starts eject, I tap the spacebar again to eject the 2nd disc, and then tap again to eject the 3rd disc.
